Halo 3

I guess I can take a break from saving the universe and give everyone a quick update. Halo 3 has, for the most part, lived up to expectations. The only regret I have is the lack of an HDTV to play the game on. I'm only experiencing part of the glory of the 1080p graphics. The multiplayer portion of the game is great. I go online and team up with my old buddy Dan and we play games like capture the flag and king of the hill. We can talk to each other using headsets during the battle to coordinate our attacks and taunt the enemy. I am trying to play in moderation, and this week I only stayed up late playing ONE time. That, my friends, is self control. My name is Dave, and I am a recovering Haloholic.

So I would like to encourage all of you that were fans of Ghost Recon to go and invest in this system. It is the way to fill the void that Recon's absence has left us, and man is it fun.

Pacific City

We just wanted to put in a picture of the family and thought this one would be great. We had a blast in Pacific City and it brought back so many memories for me especially. Eventually we'll be posting more photos on our family's web page. It's under construction at the moment.
Love you guys!

Comments

One feature of this blog is the ability each user has of leaving comments in response to a post.

To do this, simply click on the line at the bottom of the post indicating the number of comments that have been left (normally 'O Comments') and a pop-up window appears. Here you leave comments relevant to the main post.

After your comment has been left, the line at the bottom of the post will show how many comments have been left for that post.

I point this out because the print is so small, and the comments are not displayed until you click on them.

Beware of HALO!!!!!!!!

I am sad to say that after almost 11 years of marriage Dave and I are going to have to go our seperate ways. Unfortunatly Dave has fallen out of love with late nights watching movies or TV shows, playing games and any other after hours activities. I don't know what I've done to drive him to his new mistress. Some suped-up synthetic whan-a-be named Halo. Even our good friends have turned on me and now come only to meet and hang out with "Halo". If you ask me she is kind of boxy, but then I have to admit I have let myself go and have become pretty round. My only hope is that in sharing my sad story of abandonment I can in some way spare my loved ones. Brothers...resit the charms of this "Halo" gal. Your wives have so much more personality and capability for devotion.

Report suggests Blu-ray/HD DVD war will end in peaceful co-existence

Story here

See what I know.

Cell Phone Woes

So my coverage really stinks at my house. And in this whole neighborhood. More than half of my jobsites are in this area. I have to go outside if I want to increase the chances of not dropping the call. Or for carrying on a conversation where I am reasonably assured of being heard at all, for that matter.

I tell Nextel about it, and they have me spend 20-30 minutes on the phone with tech support, describing when, where, and how often I drop calls. Did I initiate the call? Is it usually at the beginning of the call or at the end of the call?

They suggest I go online each time I drop a call and report it. 'The squeaky wheel get the grease,' they tell me. And I can request a credit.

This has been going on for several years. I finally told them that I think I would like a credit. The guy tells me that he can only give me free additional airtime. I inform him that my plan is unlimited. Supervisor time. $20 is the best he can do. Not too shabby. But am I willing to put up with going outside all the time for $20 off my bill occasionally?

They ask me if I'd like someone to look into the problem. Uh, yeah.

I get a call this morning from a gal, and she says 'I understand you have a problem with your cell phone.' I politely let her know that it's not my phone, but their service that is a bit of a problem. She goes on to tell me that there is a 'service hole' in my neighborhood. While not surprising to hear, it's the first time they've admitted it. She explains that they are aware of the problem and will keep it in mind when placing future towers.

I ask for a timeframe. She says none is available (translation: we're not too worried about this hole you live in.) I describe the kinds of problems it causes me, and when I mention that I have to go outside, she references my contract, and reminds me that Sprint/Nextel does not guarantee service inside buildings. ( You know, buildings? Those big things people sometimes go into?)

What if it's raining? Or freezing cold outside? Or really hot?

I'm looking for options. Does anybody know anybody who uses Helio? They've got an unlimited plan for $120 a month, which would save me $40. That's the only service I've found that would be an acceptable replacement for my current 'Berry. Spoke with Brent Wilford, and he tells me to beware or an other-than-mainstream brand. But it looks like they ride the Sprint network. Andrea's on Sprint and the coverage here is much mejor.

Dave owes us a post on the imminent release of Halo 3

Maddie the Robot

Maddie was selected this year to be one of only two 4th graders to compete on the Huachuca Elementary Robotics Team. The team competes with other schools in Arizona in building Lego® robots that are programmed to perform certain tasks. Each year, a theme is chosen for the competition requiring students to research technological solutions to modern problems.

The theme this year is Alternative Fuels. Maddie is becoming quite a fountain of knowledge on the subject of E85 (ethanol fuel derived mostly from corn.)

She helps make up a team of eight, the remaining five team members all 5th graders. Wesley competed last year in Phoenix, and jumped at the chance to come back this year and mentor the elementary school team. Fun.

Zach's Soccer Game

Zach played again last night. His team is the Rangers, and he is one of many talents on the team. In the first quarter, Zach scored two goals, 'one with each foot,' explained the center striker.

The rest of the game saw him in defensive positions, allowing for other 'mates a chance to score, and showing some mercy on a clearly outclassed opponent. In the fourth quarter, while playing back defender, Zachary sprinted toward an approaching attack assailing from the sideline. He sent the ball back into safety, but continued his sprint to the sideline. Without slowing, Zach continued past the coach and spectating parents as he ran full-speed to the bathrooms. 'I have to go to the bathroom' he uttered breathlessly as he went.

The team only allowed one goal, and Zach's coach later told him that under the circumstances, it was OK. 'Just don't ever try that when the score is tied," said coach Jim.

Final Score: U8 doesn't keep score (but we smoked 'em.)
